HOW THE CALCULATOR WORKS

How the calculator values your business

The company valuation calculator uses the multiple method, the most common approach for valuing a business in the Mittelstand. The principle is a simple equation: your adjusted EBITDA × an industry multiple = enterprise value.

Adjusted EBITDA

The starting point is your operating result, adjusted for one-off effects, a market-standard managing-director salary and private costs. This normalisation reveals the true earning power a buyer values.

Industry and size bracket

Every industry trades in a typical range, and size moves it again: the same business is valued lower at €3m revenue than at €30m. The calculator holds 20 industries across three size brackets from the DUB KMU Multiples Q2 2026, and your revenue selects the bracket.

Your value drivers

Where you land within that range is decided by five factors: earnings quality, growth, independence from the owner, market position and transaction readiness. The detailed calculator assesses these 18 drivers individually.

Quick estimate: industry range in 3 minutes. Detailed analysis: an individual value across 18 value drivers in 12 minutes. Both free, no registration.

Frequently asked questions about company valuation

How is a company valued?

In the Mittelstand the multiple method is standard: enterprise value equals adjusted EBITDA multiplied by an industry multiple. Advisors additionally use capitalised-earnings and DCF methods. This calculator applies the multiple method, which best approximates the market price for mid-sized companies.

What is an EBITDA multiple?

The multiple is the factor by which your EBITDA is multiplied. A multiple of 6 on €1m adjusted EBITDA yields an enterprise value of around €6m. How high the multiple is depends on your industry and the quality of your business.

Which multiple applies to my industry?

Every industry trades in a typical range, and within an industry company size shifts the multiple substantially again. The calculator holds 20 industries across three size brackets (under €5m, €5–50m, above €50m revenue) from the DUB KMU Multiples; where you land within the range is determined by your individual value drivers.

How accurate is an online valuation calculator?

It provides a reliable indicative range for orientation, not a formal valuation. The price actually achievable depends on due diligence, negotiation and buyer strategy. A transaction-ready valuation requires an individual analysis by an M&A advisor.

What does using the calculator cost?

Both calculators are free and can be used without registration. Your entries are not stored.

What is the difference between the quick and detailed calculator?

The quick calculator shows the industry range in about 3 minutes based on revenue and adjusted EBITDA. The detailed calculator narrows that range in about 12 minutes across 18 value drivers to an individual enterprise value, including a score across five dimensions, a value-driver analysis and a PDF report.
